During the overhaul of this multistory factory, the old windows on the upper residential floors were replaced by energy-efficient, operable windows. The second story art gallery's floor-to-ceiling display windows were also restored, giving plenty of natural illumination for exhibits inside. Each apartment contains a refrigerator and other household appliances that are Energy Star-certified, helping to lower utility bills.

Automatic daylight sensors and occupancy sensors have cut down on electricity use, and an extra layer of insulation in the attic and in the exterior masonry shield the building from temperature extremes.
